How long has Help At Home been in business?
The agency was founded in 2001 by Terri Rabkin. We are fortunate that almost all of our growth has been a result of word of mouth referrals from our satisfied clients.

Do you provide care outside of the home?
Help at Home can provide services in your home, in residential communities, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, and hospitals on a temporary or long term basis.

In which geographical areas do you place caregivers?
We offer help in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, including Maryland and Northern Virginia suburbs.

How do I arrange for service?
You can call our office at (301)896-0015. We are available to assist you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We conduct an in-depth interview to get to know you. Our goal is to become familiar with your lifestyle, medical conditions and the kind of assistance you need in order to determine the scope of care.

How quickly can I start receiving services?
Ordinarily, we conduct a complete assessment so that we understand the specific needs of a new client. However, on an emergency basis, we are able to start care within a few hours.

Do you have a minimum number of hours per visit?
We have a 4 hour minimum per visit.

What hours are available?
Our caregivers are available for as little as 4 hours per visit up to 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. You can choose which days and hours you would like to receive services. If your care needs change, we will adjust the schedule to match your needs.

What if I only need help for one or two days a week, or just once in a while?
We can provide service on a one-time basis, a few times a week, up to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Can your agency provide transportation for outpatient surgical procedures?
Help at Home provides escorted transportation to and from outpatient procedures. Our caregivers will escort you into the house, help you get comfortable, and stay to attend to your post-surgical needs.


How does Help At Home screen their caregivers?
Our caregivers are licensed Certified Nursing Assistants, Geriatric Nursing Assistants, and Home Health Aides who are personally screened and interviewed by our experienced professionals.

Will the caregiver be experienced in caring for someone with my specific concerns?
Our care providers are trained and experienced in a broad range of geriatric and health care issues. We pride ourselves on knowing the personalities and areas of expertise within our family of caregivers to match the person who can best meet your needs.

What should I do if I do not care for the assigned caregiver?
We do our best to make a good match between client and caregiver. However, if you have any reservations at all, we will change caregivers, without hesitation, until you are completely satisfied.

What happens if the caregiver who helps me gets sick or goes on vacation?
Help at Home has a large pool of caregivers so we can promptly and efficiently send another qualified provider to substitute. Clients and family members will be notified of any changes in staffing or scheduling.

Will I always have the same caregiver?
We take pride in matching you with a caregiver that is a good fit for your needs and personality. We understand that most of our clients appreciate having the stability of the same caregiver day after day, and we strive to meet that expectation.

Can your caregiver transport a client to appointments or other activities?
Our caregivers can drive and/or escort you as needed.

What can your agency do for our loved one if their health deteriorates and they require a higher level of care?
Help At Home can provide a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse should your family member need an increase in the level of care.


How do I pay for the services of your agency?
Help at Home sends a weekly invoice to the client or designated responsible party for services rendered. The invoice is itemized to reflect the actual time your caregiver worked.

Are the rates higher at night or on the weekends?
We have the same low rate 7 days a week, day or night.

Which holidays are observed?
The only holidays we bill at time and a half are Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, and July 4th.

Will insurance cover the cost of home care?
Some long-term care insurance policies cover our services. We will provide the necessary paperwork, and work with you and your insurance company to determine if you are eligible for reimbursement.

Are there additional costs such as agency fees or transportation costs?
There are no agency fees. Our clients are billed for mileage only if the caregiver uses his/her own vehicle
